How is Nucleus different from 23andMe?

add

Most consumer genetic tests use a technology called microarray testing, which often looks at less than 0.1% of your DNA. This means that important health insights can be missed.

In comparison, Nucleus looks at close to 100% of your DNA by using a more advanced technology called whole-genome sequencing. By analyzing 1000x more DNA than other tests, Nucleus provides deeper and better insights, giving you a more complete picture of your health risks.

In addition, Nucleus incorporates your non-genetic health information, like your blood pressure, cholesterol level, BMI, and more, to identify important health insights that other tests miss.

How does Nucleus analyze my DNA?

add

Nucleus uses whole-genome sequencing to analyze your DNA for millions of variants that can impact your risk for diseases. Nucleus classifies variants into three major categories: Causal, high-effect, and common.

Causal variants can single-handedly cause a disease or trait but are extremely rare.

High-effect variants have a strong effect on diseases and traits — just one of them can sometimes be enough to substantially increase your chances of developing diseases or having a trait.

Common variants are DNA differences more commonly found in people. One common variant alone may not significantly influence your risk of developing a specific disease or your chance of having a certain trait. But, collectively, these variants can shape your traits and influence your disease risks. The combined impact of these variants are measured through our innovative algorithms called common genetic scores (also known as polygenic scores).

Through our whole-genome analysis, we are able to identify these variants and provide insights into how they affect your health and well-being.

What is whole-genome sequencing?

add

Most consumer genetic tests use a technology called microarray testing. Microarray tests look at only a tiny fraction of your DNA — less than 0.1%. This means that important health insights can be missed. In comparison, Nucleus looks at closer to 100% of your DNA — 1,000x more DNA than microarray tests — to give you a more complete picture of your health risks. Nucleus performs 30x high-depth whole-genome sequencing coverage.
